Patented technology:
Production process of Red Yeast Rice:
1. Selection of suitable Monascus strain and high quality unpolluted rice grains for fermentation
2. 1st Sterilization of rice grains
3. Inoculation of Monascus seed culture under sterile condition
4. Solid state fermentation under specially formulated culture conditions
5. Drying
6. Grinding
7. Packaging
8. 2nd Sterilization with radiation

Our innovative patented technology has eliminated contamination of CITRININ. Citrinin causes kidney damage and mild liver damage in the form of fatty infiltration. In order to avoid the risk of citrinin, we check every batch of our product with HPLC to ensure no citrinin is detected.

Under fermentation process, Monascus produces two forms (acidic & lactone forms) of Monacolin K but synthesized statin drugs only have one form (lactone form). Acidic form can be used directly by our body more effectively. Identification and chemical profiling of monacolins in red yeast rice using high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detector. A chemical fingerprint profiling method to display bioactive monacolins in red yeast rice was established and could be used for the quality control of the target substance and its related products.

Superior to other red yeast rice products:
Different red yeast rice products contain different amounts of the monacolins. Some red yeast rice products may have little or no monacolins. Therefore, in choosing a red yeast rice product, consumers should be aware of the variations. Certain products may also contain unacceptably high levels of citrinin.

Test method for citrinin, HPLC
a.Prepare solvent, toluene (T): ethyl acetate (E): formic acid (F) = 7:3:1
b.Extract 3 g powder with 20 ml TEF for 10 mins with stirring (or sonicate), then extract twice, and make up to 50.0 ml extract. Filter.
c.HPLC column C-18 reversed phase µBondapak column, 5 µm; 250 x 4.6 mm; fluorescence detector (λex=331 nm, λem=500 nm) Mobile phase, acetonitrile: water =35:65 (by vol)
d.Flow rate 1.0 ml/ml, T=28 oC
e.Citrinin standard (sigma C1017), 1 µg/ml

Test method for lovastatin content (acid form and lactone form), HPLC
a.Extract 0.5 g powder with 50 ml 70% ethanol for 1 hour at 55oC. Filter.
b.HPLC column C-18, 5 µM, 250 x 4.6 mm; UV detector 238nm
c.Mobile phase acetonitrile: water = 45:55 (by volumn)
d.pH 2.5 adjusted with H3PO4
e.Flow rate 1.0 ml/ml, T=28 oC
